The Gallatin NF Avalanche Center in Bozeman has issued a 

BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas: 

NWS Billings MT - MTZ067 (MTZ067)



* WHAT...Avalanche conditions are very dangerous and the 

  avalanche danger is HIGH.



* WHERE...The mountains near Cooke City.



* WHEN...In effect from Fri 05:00 MST to Sat 05:30 MST.



* IMPACTS...Snowfall and wind drifting are overloading a weak 

  snowpack. Large avalanches have already been breaking and more 

  large avalanches are likely today.



* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche

  conditions. Stay far away from any steep slope. Avalanches may 

  be triggered from flat terrain below steeper slopes.
