The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has issued a



* Flash Flood Warning for...

  Northwestern Sierra County in south central New Mexico...



* Until 300 AM MDT.



* At 1152 PM MDT, nearly stationary thunderstorms have produced 

  between 1 and 2 inches of rain over the upper reaches of Alamosa 

  Creek in Monticello Canyon. This will cause flash flooding, 

  especially in several low water crossings along Calle del Norte 

  heading northwest of Monticello. Water flowing in Alamosa Creek 

  may make it past Monticello and Placitas later tonight.



  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Flash flooding of arroyos, low water crossings, as

           well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.



* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Monticello and Las Placitas.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 

dangers of flooding.



Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. 

Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a 

matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
