Water may impound behind a jam which may cause flooding several miles upstream. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At Noon AKDT Tuesday May 5th, the River Watch team reports that a breakup front 3 to 5 miles upstream from Aniak is moving quickly downstream. As this breakup front reaches intact ice in Aniak and downstream of Aniak, this could result in an ice jam and cause water levels to rise in Aniak. As reported yesterday, breakup is in process upstream from the mouth of the Holokuk River to Napaimute. Ice downstream of Napaimute was observed to be solid and holding. This may result in water rises from downstream of Crook Creek to Napaimute. Now is the time to take precautions. When possible, move items to higher ground and prepare your community for possible flooding. - Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Stay tuned to further developments by listening to your local radio, television, or NOAA Weather Radio for further information. && $$ Baines
