Subject: Soliciting comments on the proposed new Global Broker

service for WIS 2.0 services through August 11, 2025



The WMO Information System 2.0 (WIS2) is a framework for WMO

data sharing in the 21st century for all WMO domains and

disciplines.  It supports the WMO Unified Data policy, the

Global Basic Observing Network and makes international,

regional, and national data sharing simple, effective, and

inexpensive.  The WIS2 architecture consists of WIS2 Nodes,

which are the data providers and a set of Global Services.  The

NWS WIS2 Node achieved its initial operating capability in May

2025.  On or about July 7th, 2025, the NWS will expand its WIS2

capabilities by adding a Global Broker service that features a

Publish-Subscribe service for WMO “Core” and “Recommended”

data

as described in the WMO Unified Data Policy.  The NWS is

soliciting comments on the proposed new WIS2 services through

August 11, 2025.



The NWS Global Broker is an MQTT Service:

globalbroker.globaldata.nws.noaa.gov available on port 8883 on

or about July 7, 2025.	It is recommended that consumers use the

Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) Explorer application

to make a connection to the NWS MQTT Global Broker service.  The

username and password credentials are: everyone/everyone.

Within the MQTT Explorer application, set subscribed topics to:

“origin/a/wis2/#” and “cache/a/wis2/#”
