.SYNOPSIS...A high pressure ridge across the northern portions

will lift N of the area today and tonight. Low pressure will

develop along a stationary front off the SE coast early this

afternoon, intensify NE across the southern waters later today

into Tue, then clear well E of the area by Tue night. Strong

counterflow to the Gulf Stream will create the potential for

steeper, breaking waves. The departing low will leave another

stationary front across the central and southern portions Wed

into Thu, with another low possibly developing off the Southeast

coast. Then by Thu and Thu night, a broad, stronger low will

approach the Mid-Atlantic coast, pulling a strong cold front

across the waters. The low will track NE of the area Fri and Fri

night, with a series of low pressure troughs or secondary cold

fronts moving E across the area. Hurricane Melissa will pass E of

the waters Thu into Fri. Mariners should monitor forecasts from

both OPC and NHC and consider avoidance plans as needed.
