FXZS60 NSTU 100125 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 225 PM SST Fri May 9 2025 .Short term... Satellite imagery continues to show showers and nearby thunderstorms along the Tutuila, Aunu'u and Manu'a islands. A ridge of high pressure is now moving further away from the region. The interaction from the ridge and the trough caused windy conditions throughout the past few days. Since the ridge is moving away, sustained winds are expected to decrease tonight through Saturday night. Cloudy skies with showers that may be heavy at times remain in the forecast through at least tonight. Showers remain likely for Saturday and Saturday night with at least mostly cloudy skies, but showers are not forecast to be as heavy. Therefore, the Flood Watch continues through at least tonight, but may be lifted on Saturday. Unfortunately, more rain and breezy weather is forecast for Sunday through Tuesday. A low pressure system is anticipated to develop near the Fiji region and to move southeastward. Even though the center of the low will be to the south, northwesterly winds are to reach up to 25 mph with higher gusts and potentially higher winds in the Pago Pago Harbor region. We will monitor this time period for the possibility of rain being heavy enough to cause flash flooding. Otherwise, cloudy skies are forecast with temperatures slightly lower than normal. .Long term... Finally from Wednesday through the rest of the week next week, drier conditions are forecast for all islands. Winds are to shift from the west/northwest to east throughout the day on Wednesday and to remain through the rest of the week at around 10 to 15 mph. If showers occur, it would be in the passing form. A mix of sun and clouds are anticipated throughout the day. && .Marine... Rough seas remain today with a moderate to fresh easterly breeze and higher gusts near heavy rainfall. The High Surf Warning remain in effect for the southern and eastern shores, while the northern and western remains in a High Surf Advisory. Seas are forecast to slowly ease beginning tonight as the easterly breeze decrease to a gentle to moderate breeze for the overnight hours and Saturday. As there are no significant swell moving through the area, surf levels will likely decrease to below warning levels by Saturday morning. However, a low pressure system develops to the south and west on Sunday through mid-week next week. This is forecast for winds to become a west/northwesterly breeze by Sunday and potentially reaching a fresh to strong breeze by Sunday night through Tuesday. Therefore, rough seas are expected to continue for the next 5 days. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
