After another morning of cloudy and rainy weather, a ridge from the east/southeast is finally beginning to move over the American Samoa islands this afternoon. This is forecast to slowly move the trough further away from the territory and is to change our overall weather pattern for the next 7 days. Northerly winds are to become easterly winds by midday Wednesday and to bring drier air over the territory. This will bring rainfall to below average to average for this time of the year with a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day on Wednesday through Friday along with temperatues increasing back to normal. .Long term... The aforementioned ridge is anticipated to weaken by Friday night and into the weekend. The risk of showers increases to scattered to numerous (50% to 60% chance) with more clouds than sun on Saturday and Sunday. However, the weather anticipated for this weekend is not expected to be severe like the heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds the territory received late this past week and this past weekend. Easterly winds are to become northeasterly by midday Saturday with sustained winds reaching up to 15 mph. There is no risk of tropical development near the American Samoa islands for the next 7 days. && .Marine... Elevated seas remain as a northerly swell mixing with a moderate northerly wind is creating choppy waters throughout the American Samoa coastal waters and surf conditions at advisory levels along the northern shores. The latest data from the PacIOOS buoys shows seas slowly easing and will likely fall to below Small Craft Advisory levels later this evening or early Wednesday morning. With easing seas, surf is to decrease to below advisory levels by this evening.
