FXUS66 KMFR 121726 AFDMFR Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Medford OR 926 AM PST Fri Dec 12 2025 .Updated Aviation Discussion. .DISCUSSION...Satellite image shows low clouds in the same areas as yesterday with areas of fog in the Klamath, Scott, Shasta and portions of the Klamath Basin, including Klamath Falls. The low clouds in the Rogue, Illinois, Applegate, Klamath River, and Scott Valleys could linger into the afternoon and may not break out at all. This will result in lower afternoon temperatures and they have been adjusted lower for this afternoon. Also added low clouds to areas to better match up with what the satellite image is showing and added freezing fog in portions of the Klamath Basin and Shasta Valley. Other than the low clouds and fog noted above, skies are clear and it will remain dry through the day with mild afternoon temperatures where there is no fog and/or low clouds. Dry weather is likely to continue through the weekend. A weak shortwave and surface front will approach the coast Sunday afternoon, but the front and shortwave will be running into stronger upper ridging, this will weaken the front and the front will eventually dissipate as it moves inland late Sunday afternoon. A change in the pattern is in the works for the start of next week with a series of front moving through the area starting next Monday and lasting for most of next week. -Petrucelli && .AVIATION...12/18z TAFs...Very little change in the pattern is likely in the next 24 hours. Areas of low stratus and fog are present in valleys west of the Cascades, including IFR in the Rogue Valley at Medford and Grants Pass and LIFR in fog in the Shasta Valley, and the Umpqua Basin, including Roseburg and Coquille valleys. These conditions will persist through 20z. Some areas, such as Medford and Grants Pass will see ceilings lift higher late in the afternoon to MVFR, but likely will not break out. Along the coast and just offshore. VFR conditions are likely through early this evening with lower flight conditions are likely to return tonight. East of the Cascades, Freezing fog is confined to portions of Klamath Basin, including Klamath Falls, but satellite and web cams suggest the freezing fog and vertical visibility are shallow and it could clear out within the next hour or two, with VFR conditions the rest of the day. Guidance suggest freezing fog and low vertical visibility could develop again late this evening and last for the rest of the TAF period. -Petrucelli && .MARINE...Updated 820 AM PST Friday, December 12, 2025...Light to moderate north winds and moderate west swell will persist through Friday night. Gradually, winds shift to southerly Saturday and increase into Sunday, but still probably remain below small craft advisory levels. Low pressure then deepens over the north Pacific and a cold front will swing through the waters Sunday night into Monday. This will bring a high probability of gales (>70%) and a period of steep to very steep hazardous seas. A series of frontal systems is likely to keep the weather active with elevated winds and seas much of next week. -Spilde/BPN && .MFR WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... OR...None.
