FXUS65 KVEF 271931 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1231 PM PDT Mon Oct 27 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Areas of breezy north winds are expected through Wednesday, peaking on Tuesday. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect Tuesday for areas from Lake Mead to Lake Havasu. * Dry weather and above-normal temperatures persist through the weekend. && .DISCUSSION...through Monday. Midday satellite loop showed clear skies areawide. Surface obs showed temperatures averaging a couple of degrees cooler than 24 hours ago and areas of breezy northerly winds. The winds will be the main concern through Wednesday. As expected by previous shifts, the trough axis has now moved to our east, bringing in the northerly winds on its back side. Thus far, the strongest gusts have been on the NNSS, but this will change tonight and Tuesday. As surface high pressure strengthens over the northern Great Basin, the north-south pressure gradient intensifies, which will support increasing north to northeast winds beginning tonight and peaking on Tuesday. KELY-KEED gradient should peak around 12-14 mb, but upper support will be lacking, so winds around 25 mph with gusts around 40 mph look probable, strongest around Bullhead City as is usually the case with north winds. Thus, hoisted a Lake Wind Advisory for Tuesday from Lake Mead through Lake Havasu. The surface high will weaken Wednesday, and the gradient will flop over to more of a northeast-southwest orientation, so winds will weaken. Otherwise, high pressure aloft was already building over the eastern Pacific this afternoon and is expected to be in control of our weather at least through the weekend, if not longer. This will keep our area dry with temperatures about five degrees above normal for late October/early November. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Wind will be the concern. Northeasterly winds should reach the terminal by noon, and the best chance for 10+ knots is between 19z and 22z with a 40% probability. If they do exceed this threshold, the direction will be between 010 and 070. Winds should weaken and turn back westerly around sunset, if not before. Another push of north to northeast winds could reach the terminal overnight, but the more likely scenario (~60% chance) is for these winds to affect Nellis AFB and areas down the Colorado River. Tuesday will likely see the strongest northeasterly winds at the terminal, with sustained speeds around 10 knots beginning in the morning. Stronger gusts cannot be ruled out. Mostly clear skies. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Expect northerly breezes through this afternoon, with the strongest gusts of 20 to 30 knots in rural areas of Esmeralda and Nye counties. Northerly winds will increase overnight and persist through Tuesday, with the strongest gusts of 30 to 40 knots expected in areas of north-south oriented terrain, such as the Colorado River Valley and Death Valley. Mostly clear skies. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ DISCUSSION...Morgan AVIATION...Morgan For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
