FXUS65 KVEF 062005 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 105 PM PDT Wed May 6 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Temperatures will increase each day, with temperatures around 15 to 20 degrees above normal early next week. && .DISCUSSION...Today through Tuesday. Temperatures across southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona, and southeastern California will top out around 10 degrees warmer than yesterday as the shortwave responsible for the cooler weather the past few days moves out of the region and a ridge of high pressure begins to build over the Southwestern US. Temperatures will continue to warm each day through early next week, when temperatures will top out around 15 to 20 degrees above normal. As temperatures increase, we will see widespread Minor to Moderate HeatRisk (Levels 1 and 2, respectively) as we head into the weekend. By early next week, we will see HeatRisk increase to Major (Level 3 of 4) in Death Valley and in the Colorado River Valley. Locally, here in the Las Vegas Valley, we see pixels of Major HeatRisk begin to pop up in the eastern portions of the valley early next week with a 20 to 40% chance of seeing Major HeatRisk across the valley. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Winds will follow typical directional patterns and remain under 8KT. The exception is this evening between 04Z-07Z when there is a low chance for northeast winds to 10KT to push into the valley. If this did occur, winds would switch back to the typical light southwest by 09Z. Skies will be mostly clear skies expected through the period. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Typical wind patterns below 10KT are generally expected across the region today and tonight. KBIH into the Owens Valley will see north winds around 10KT occasionally gusting 15-20KT this afternoon which will wane after sunset. Also, expect a west wind at KDAG this evening at 10 kts around 04-06Z.
