High temperatures warm to several degrees above normal, except across eastern areas on Wednesday into Thursday when cooler air pushes in from the east. Some breezy east winds Wednesday in locations exposed to easterly winds. && .DISCUSSION...High pressure aloft will remain in control of the weather across southeast Arizona through the weekend. Flat ridging today, with an amplified ridge by the middle of the week, flattening out at the end of work week. Even stronger ridging is expected late in the weekend into early the following week, with the Climate Prediction Center forecasting a 70-80 percent chance of above normal temperatures in both the 6-10 and 8-14 day forecasts for southeast Arizona. Overall, the next 7-10 days will have generally light winds, high clouds at times and warmer high temperatures. High temperatures will warm to 3-7 degrees above normal all this week, except across Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties on Wednesday into Thursday. Highs will be in the upper 80s to around 90 degrees in the lower deserts from Tucson westward and in the lower to mid 80s across the lower elevation eastern valleys, except on Wednesday into Thursday when several degrees of cooling are forecast for Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties as the flow switches around to an easterly direction pulling in cooler air from the east. Highs on Wednesday across these eastern locations will be in the mid to upper 70s, which is 2-5 degrees below normal. The latest guidance numbers for the east winds Wednesday currently has sustained speeds of around 15 mph, gusting to between 25-30 mph in locations exposed to easterly winds. These forecasted wind speeds may increase as we get closer to Wednesday, as that has been the trend over the last couple of model runs. && .AVIATION...Valid through 28/12Z Clear skies/SKC conditions thru the forecast period. SFC wind less than 10 kts, favoring a WLY/NWLY direction during the afternoon and early evening hours and variable in direction at other times. High temperatures will warm to 3-7 degrees above normal in most locations this week, although several degrees of cooling will occur Wednesday across eastern areas (Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties) as easterly winds overspread the area. 20-foot winds will generally be 15 mph or less, with occasional gusts to 20-25 mph through the end of the week, except on Wednesday. 20-foot winds on Wednesday will be east-southeast at around 15 mph, gusting to 25-30 mph.
