FXUS65 KSLC 051111 AFDSLC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT 410 AM MST Thu Nov 5 2026 .KEY MESSAGES, Issued 917 PM MST Wed Nov 4 2026... - Dry conditions will prevail through early next week, with only a very low chance of precipitation from a grazing shortwave late Thursday into Friday. - Temperatures will stay below seasonal normals through the first half of the week, with building high pressure bringing more mild conditions beginning Sunday. && .DISCUSSION, Issued 917 PM MST Wed Nov 4 2026... Weak ridging has moved into Utah and southwest Wyoming this evening as the storm system that moved through earlier currently spinning over Colorado. With the influence of that storm system, temperatures have stayed on the cool side, with maxes averaging 5-10F below seasonal normals. High clouds will be on the increase tomorrow as weak shortwave energy from the southern branch of a splitting Pacific Northwest storm system tracks across the area through early Friday. Guidance is overall trending even weaker with this feature, with any potential for showers with this wave quickly dwindling. Its presence will act to limit warming over the area, however, with persistence being the name of the game through Friday. Behind that weak wave, strong ridging off the Pacific coast will continue to build through at least early next week. This will bring a steady warming trend over the weekend, resulting in temperatures up to 5F above seasonal normals by Sunday, with the potential for mild temperatures to continue for much of the upcoming week. Compared to yesterday, guidance seems to be trending toward solutions that favor the persistence of that blocking ridge for much of the upcoming week. A minority of solutions, however, including several GFS members, break down the ridge by midweek, allowing for a more active pattern to develop once again. Therefore, confidence in the forecast as day seven approaches remains low. && .AVIATION... KSLC...VFR conditions will prevail at the KSLC terminal through the TAF period.
