FXUS65 KREV 272000 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 100 PM PDT Mon Oct 27 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * A warming and drying trend is forecast to continue through this week. * Benign weather will remain through the end of October and into the beginning of November. && .DISCUSSION... As the upper trough that brought the windy weekend weather to the region continues to move farther east, forecast guidance shows the NWS Reno County Warning Area (CWA) having a northwesterly flow aloft with a trailing upper ridge developing over the Western CONUS. This ridge pattern continues through Tuesday, but then a PacNW trough is expected to brush past north of the CWA on Wednesday which changes the pattern slightly. By Thursday and Friday, ensemble guidance shows the ridge redeveloping over the CWA. Over the weekend, the amplitude of the upper ridge becomes suppressed allowing for a more westerly zonal flow over the CWA. With this pattern evolution aloft, the current forecast for the CWA calls for dry conditions with a slight warming trend through the week. By Friday, the daytime highs for the western NV valleys expect to be in the lower to middle 70s while higher elevation communities in the Sierra have forecasted highs in the middle to upper 60s. Overnight lows in the 30s and 40s are also forecast for the CWA through the week. With temperatures warming to well above climatological normals by the end of the week, it does look to be a pleasant week for those with outdoor Halloween activities planned. Forecast area winds also should be significantly lighter than those experienced over last weekend, so the risk of outdoor holiday decorations blowing away appears to be low at this time. Models do show the potential for some fog forming tonight into tomorrow morning within the Sierra and Martis Valleys due to the recent precipitation, so please use caution if traveling through these areas as visibilities could be reduced. Otherwise, the skies look to be mostly sunny and clear through the first half of the work week. The current forecast then calls for some cloud cover to develop on Thursday and Friday to end October. -078 && .AVIATION... VFR conditions are expected through the rest of today within the region as any lingering cloud cover looks to diminish going through the afternoon. Area winds are forecast to be considerably lighter compared to the winds experienced over the weekend. Some models show the potential for fog to develop overnight around 28/06-07Z in the Martis and Sierra Valleys. Not enough forecast confidence yet to add it to the KTRK TAF, but will monitor and adjust the forecast if needed. -078 && .REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories... NV...None. CA...None. && $$
