- Red Flag Warning in effect for Monday afternoon for southern

  El Paso, Pueblo and Huerfano Counties.



- Warmer, with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s for the

  Plains, a few light snow showers north of Cottonwood Pass

  through Monday afternoon.



- Significantly cooler for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Currently...upper energy continues to spread across Colorado

this afternoon, with increasing mid and high level clouds.

Temperatures are generally in the 50s and 60s, with areas around

Pueblo slow to warm due to fog this morning and increasing

clouds. Winds are light southeasterly across the Plains.



Tonight...upper energy will dive across the Northern Rockies

overnight, spreading gusty winds across the higher terrain. This

will also lead to a few snow showers across the Central

Mountains after midnight. This snow will remain light, and

mainly north of Cottonwood Pass. Accumulations look to remain

below an inch. Winds will also allow for midslope temperatures

along the Eastern Mountains to remain mild, while areas along

the lower Arkansas River Valley will be coolest. In addition,

southeasterly flow will help lead to areas of fog again tonight,

mainly across southern El Paso and Pueblo Counties. The main

concern for tonight will be how quickly a surface low develop on

the Plains, and when low level flow transitions to

southwesterly. Overall, temperatures will be in the mid 40s to

lower 50s along the mid slopes, while the lower elevations fall

into the lower 40s.  



Monday...the upper wave will continue to dive southeast across

Wyoming during the day, spreading strong winds across portions

of southern Colorado by the afternoon. High elevation areas, and

areas north of Highway 50 will see the greatest potential for

wind gusts in excess of 30 mph during the afternoon. Along with

the wind, drier air is forecast to spread across the region and

will help produce critical fire weather conditions. Areas from

southern El Paso, Pueblo and Huerfano Counties will see the

highest fire weather concerns, and a Red Flag Warning has been

issues. Areas of eastern Fremont County will also need to be

watched, as humidity values will be close to critical. Light

snow will continue to fall over the Central Mountains, with

minor accumulations possible. Afternoon high temperatures will

warm into the upper 60s to mid 70s across the lower elevations.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...

Monday night...A cold front will push south across the Palmer Divide 

by early evening, ushering in much cooler air for the plains as well 

as some isolated showers. Overnight low temps Mon night into Tue are 

currently expected to be in the 20s for the high valleys, and mid 

20s to mid 30s for the plains.  



Tuesday and Wednesday...Significantly cooler both days post-frontal 

passage and as cool N-NW flow aloft settles in across the state. 

Plan on dry conditions, with afternoon highs in the 50s for most 

locations, and overnight low temps Tue night and Wed night in the 

20s.



Thursday through Saturday...Continued dry conditions and warming as 

ridging aloft builds into the southwestern US. Look for highs in the 

mid 50s to mid 60s for most locations Thu and Fri, then around 60F 

for the high valleys and mid 60s to lower 70s for the plains on Sat.

VFR conditions expected at all taf sites the next 24 hrs, with

periods of mid/high level clouds. Low (10-20 percent) chance of

some patchy stratus/fog near/just east of KCOS and KPUB overnightas lower clouds have formed as of 05z around KLIC, but with 

strengthening w-nw drainage flows after 08z, won't include in the 

forecast for now. On Monday, sw winds at all sites will increase, 

with some gusts 20-25 kts after 17z-19z. Cold front drops through

KPUB and KCOS 01z-02z Mon evening, with winds becoming nly and 

gusty (15-25 kts) both sites.
