Issued at 115 PM MDT Wed May 6 2026 The tail end of the weather system that brought the region MUCH beneficial precipitation was located over the region, with the back edge of the system extending from the KPUX radar southwest to Alamosa. This activity is expected to continue pushing Southeast and should move out of the fcst area by early evening. Periods of heavier snow will be possibe over the southern San Juans and southern mountains, with rain and snow showers over the Southern San Luis Valley and across the southern and eastern sections of the Colorado southeast plains. The main concern forward is the hard freeze which is anticipated tonight. Skies should clear out by early evening and min temps are forecast to drop into the 10s and 20s, with mid 20s widespread across the southeast plains. Confidence is high that temperatures will get below freezing tonight across the plains. && .LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 115 PM MDT Wed May 6 2026 A warming trend will begin tomorrow as temps should rise into the 70s plains/60s valley rising into the mid 80s plains/70s valley by Saturday. Sunday we will see a brief cooling trend but temps will quickly rebound by early/mid week with 90s plains/around 80 valleys. Some fire weather concerns start to develop by Saturday, and will last into next week. However, wetting rains over the last day or two have mitigated the threat somewhat. as for precip, except for the exiting precip today, it will be dry for the most part. Will keep conditions IFR/LIFR overnight into early Thu morning, though suspect cigs/vis will bounce around as drier air slowly spreads east.
