.KEY MESSAGES...



- Dryer tomorrow with temperatures warming up over the plains.



- 100s return by Friday for the plains and remain in the 100s 

  through at least mid week next week.



- Dry region-wide through Saturday, then moisture slowly increases 

  mainly over mtns from Sunday onward.



- Low end fire weather concerns along the Divide today and tomorrow, 

  transitioning to the eastern plains for the weekend into early 

  next week.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...

Main concern for today will be marginal Red Flag conditions for the 

central mountains, with lesser concerns for the La Garitas and 

northern Sangres. A Red Flag warning is in effect for the central 

mtns for later today. Otherwise, temperatures will be warming up 

across the plains, although temps will still be a couple of degrees 

below normal over the lower elevations. As for precip, the only 

chances will be down along the CO/NM border, especially over the 

southern Sangre De Cristo mtns. The mtns and valleys will remain 

very warm with temps reaching about 90F San Luis Valley (SLV)

Thursday, Fire weather concerns increase a bit more as a Red Flag 

conditions will be felt over a good part of the CONTDVD region, with 

some areas of concern over parts of the San Luis Valley and the Wet 

mtns/Wet mtn valley areas. A fire weather watch remains in effect 

for the CONTDVD region for this day. 



It will be primarily dry on Thursday region-wide. Temperatures will 

continue to warm up with 90s over all of the plains, wit L90s El 

Paso, and M/U90s over the remainder of the plains. L90s SLV.



Friday...100s return to most of the plains with L90s SLV. Only 

spotty critical fire weather conditions expected on this day with 

the best chances over the greater Wet Mtn region and over the far 

eastern plains. It will remain dry.



Weekend...Hot and dry plains with 95 to 105 readings plains and 

around 90F SLV. Mtns will be dry Saturday but precip chances will 

begin to tweek upwards over the mtns on Sunday. Critical fire 

weather conditions will be possible over the far eastern plains. 



Next week, Hot at the beginning of the period becoming a bit less 

hot by mid week. Precip chances will also slowly increase day by day 

over the higher terrain. 



Looking a bit further out, long range deterministic guidance is in 

rather good agreement at ramping up precip reion-wide, especially 

over the interior mtns by late week. This is also indicated in the 

statistical forecast products. \/Hodanish

VFR conditions anticipated across the forecast area over the

next 24 hours, including the three main TAF sites of KCOS, KPUB

and KALS. Surface winds are expected to remain diurnal in

direction, with a brief period of gusts to around 20 KT this

afternoon.
