FXUS65 KPIH 270407 AFDPIH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pocatello ID 1007 PM MDT Sun Oct 26 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Storm system will produce occasional rain and snow along with gusty conditions through Monday. - Drier weather is expected for most of the week after Monday. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 138 PM MDT Sun Oct 26 2025 Much colder temperatures in place across eastern Idaho this afternoon with temps currently running in the 30s to lower 40s. Widespread low/mid level clouds continue to streak across the region with light precip finally be picked up by surface observations and radar. Hi-res CAMs show precip becoming much more prevalent throughout the rest of the evening and into the early part of the day on Monday. Snow levels are running around 6000-6500 ft this afternoon so areas above that elevation will see snow fall and Winter Weather Advisories remain in place as such. An additional 1-4 inches appear likely across the central mountains with 2-4 across the lower elevations of the eastern highlands with 4-8 still likely across the higher peaks of the Bear River Range and the Big Holes. Certainly still possible that a few flakes fly in the Snake Plain or Magic Valley later tonight and overnight as temps/snow levels drop tonight but not anticipating any issues with accumulation in the valleys. Winds will ramp up later this evening and overnight across the southern part of the region into the 15-25 mph range so it will be a bit chilly when the wind is factored in. We'll begin to see clearing throughout the day tomorrow but it will be quite cold, 15-20 degrees below normal, across the region. Daytime highs in the 30s to low 40s are expected across ALL of eastern Idaho. Snow showers will remain possible for areas along and east of the I-15 corridor at daybreak tomorrow and become focused mostly across the eastern highlands by the lunch hour. By mid/late afternoon, most of eastern Idaho should be returning towards mostly clear skies setting the stage for a cold Monday evening with teens and 20s. Single digits likely for areas around Yellowstone and into the Stanley and Copper Basins. && .LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/... Issued at 138 PM MDT Sun Oct 26 2025 Upper ridge shifts across the region Tuesday, and ensemble clusters maintain the longwave ridge into the weekend. General temperature trend is upward throughout the week, warming from the upper 40s/lower 50s Wednesday into the upper 50s/lower 60s for daytime highs by the weekend. Weak shortwave flattens the ridge Wednesday, but minimal impact expected. Another weak shortwave arrives Friday, and while the broad ridge remains in place, there is enough uncertainty within the ensemble runs to produce light precipitation across the mountain regions of East Idaho by the weekend. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z TUESDAY/... Issued at 1005 PM MDT Sun Oct 26 2025 Widespread MVFR to IFR CIGs in place and forecast to persist through later tonight. VFR VIS everywhere, although IFR VIS is still forecast at KDIJ through morning. Winds will increase overnight into early morning Monday. Precipitation will diminish from west to east early morning, with all terminals except for KDIJ forecast to be precipitation-free beginning between 10z and 12z. Clouds will scatter Monday afternoon and winds will diminish Monday night as high pressure builds in behind the departing trough. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 101 AM MDT Sun Oct 26 2025 Wetting rains are likely for much of east and south Idaho today, but less likely for 475 and 476. Snow levels will range from valley floors across the central mountains to 6000 feet across the southeast highlands. Wind gusts should be less today, but a gust to 25 mph is still possible. This system will depart the region on Monday with drier weather likely for much of the week. && .PIH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
