FXUS65 KMSO 271907 AFDMSO Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Missoula MT 107 PM MDT Mon Oct 27 2025 .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGES: - Snow showers linger through this evening, mainly in the high terrain, but also a few in valleys. - Models are uncertain about the details of the next storm system set to arrive for the weekend with valley rain and mountain snow. The morning's unsettled weather, which brought snow to the mountains, is now moving out of the region. This afternoon, we are seeing mainly mountain showers which will linger through the evening. A few valley showers are also possible by late evening. There will be periods of clearing skies as a ridge of high pressure begins to build in, but widespread clearing skies will likely hold off until midday Tuesday. This ridge will briefly be in place on Tuesday, bringing dry, mostly sunny, and pleasant weather to the entire area. The ridge will be nudged by a weak, quick- moving system diving south on Wednesday. This will bring light showers, mostly to the mountains of northwest and west- central Montana, but impacts are expected to be low. Our attention then turns to the weekend. Model guidance show the next Pacific storm system arriving sometime over the weekend. This looks like another "atmospheric river" event, but current thinking is that it will be weaker than the systems we've seen recently. It will likely bring a return to valley rain and mountain snow, but the exact timing and strength are still in question && .AVIATION... Lingering shower activity is expected to tapered off late this evening as a ridge of high pressure builds over the region. Most of the showers are in the mountains but high-resolution models suggest that a few showers will occur in the valleys by late this evening. Clouds will linger into Tuesday morning, especially over the terrain and from KMSO north through northwest Montana. Widespread clearing skies are expected to prevail by midday Tuesday. && .MSO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... MT...None. ID...None. && $$
