FXUS65 KCYS 272322 AFDCYS Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Cheyenne WY 522 PM MDT Mon Oct 27 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6PM this evening for the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges. 6 to 10 inches of snow is possible, with locally higher amounts possible in the highest peaks. - A High Wind Warning remains in effect for the Bordeaux wind prone zone along I-25 through 6PM this evening. Gusts up to 65mph possible, with isolated gusts to 70mph possible. - Very cold temperatures overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning as skies clear our behind the front. Warmer temperatures return Wednesday onwards. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 340 PM MDT Mon Oct 27 2025 In a post-frontal environment we're seeing gusty winds alongside mountain precipitation and some weaker echoes moving into the high plains. High resolution guidance is indicating we should continue to see precipitation through this evening across the CWA, but the winter weather advisories for the mountains will expire at 6 PM this evening as the bulk of the noteworthy precipitation should subside around that time. Meanwhile our winds have been quite gusty with speeds up to 45-55 mph, but we haven't hit our high wind warning of 58+ mph in the Bordeaux area. Still, going to keep the warning up in case we do manage to hit criteria before 6 PM. Finally some dryness is seen further east into the Nebraska Panhandle, but remaining above critical thresholds needed for elevated fire weather risk. Moving into Tuesday the morning lows will be quite chilly, with temperatures expected to bottom out in the 20's to just below freezing for all parts of the CWA. What will keep our temperatures from getting any colder will be cloud cover that should help insulate the region through at least the very early morning hours, but by sunrise this cloud cover should be mostly gone. Another round of breezy winds tomorrow but with the bulk of the jet off to our east by this point winds won't be as strong as today. Otherwise ridging moving in clears us out, with a cold airmass from the front only allowing our highs to peak in the 30's to 40's. And then moving into the night and Wednesday morning, lows will hit their coldest of the year, with temperatures dropping into the teens and 20's with feels like temperatures as low as the single digits. If you've got anyone heading to school or work on Wednesday, make sure they're bundled up! && .LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... Issued at 340 PM MDT Mon Oct 27 2025 A persistent upper level ridge sets up over the Intermountain West on Wednesday. 700mb temperatures will be around 4 to 6C keeping temperatures into the mid 50's during the day. There is an upper level low that dives from Canada into the Northern Plains on Thursday to give the Intermountain West a glancing blow. But due to our dry downsloping westerly winds no precipitation is expected to develop across the forecast area. Cold air does follow this upper level low to drop overnight temperatures into the mid 20's as the 700mb temperatures will be around -2 to -5c. This weekend still looks relatively dry as a weak shortwave passes through the Intermountain West. Pops were kept low as the dry layer near the surface remains stout but there is a slight chance for some overnight showers Saturday into Sunday. && .AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z TUESDAY/... Issued at 522 PM MDT Mon Oct 27 2025 Showers are currently over KSNY and should be done by 02z. Models are indicating a second wave of showers to hit the Nebraska Terminals but looking at satellite and radar the imaging doesnt paint the same picture as the models so the second wave of showers was left out of the TAFs because of the low confidence. However if the second wave does come from the Northwest brief showers could be expected from 04z to 08z along the Panhandle. Winds are expected to gust through the night for the Wyoming terminals and starting gusting again at 15z for the Nebraska Panhandle terminals. && .CYS WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
