FXUS65 KCYS 050902 AFDCYS Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Cheyenne WY 202 AM MST Thu Nov 5 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - Near average temperatures and mostly dry conditions are expected through the remainder of the work week. - Warmer temperatures are likely to return this weekend with dry weather conditions continuing. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 202 AM MST Thu Nov 5 2026 Mid to high-level clouds are currently being fed into the CWA from a trough to our east across the Upper Midwest. These clouds may limit radiational cooling for the overnight hours, so lows tonight may only dip into the low to mid 20s west of I-25 and around 30 east of the corridor. While highs Thursday will jump back into the upper 40s to low 50s from the Laramie Range and west, with temperatures soaring into the mid to upper 50s east of the mountains. Lets switch gears a bit and look at the synoptic features aloft. High pressure located over southeast Montana is forming a Rex Block over our region, this will bring benign weather conditions across the CWA for today. This will clear out the remaining mid to high-level clouds, west to east, through the morning hours as the high pressure shifts east. We will see a return of cloud cover later this afternoon/evening as a weak shortwave begins to push in from the west, breaking down the Rex Block. By Friday, the aforementioned shortwave aloft will slide east across the state, this will increase precipitation chances primarily over the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges, albeit slight. Everywhere else across the CWA is expected to stay dry with additional cloud cover being the only sign that something, such as a weak cold front, is passing through. This additional cloud cover will keep highs slightly cooler than Thursday, but still near normal for early November. && .LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 130 PM MST Wed Nov 4 2026 No major changes in the long term, except for taking out Friday and starting the long term discussion on Saturday, please see previous discussion below... Saturday...Will see a slow warming trend though tempered by northerly flow aloft. Low and mid levels look too dry for any precipitation. Sunday...The warming trend continues as the ridge aloft builds across our counties, helping to produce a surface lee trough across eastern Wyoming. 700 mb temperatures near 7 Celsius will yield maximum temperatures from the mid 50s to mid 60s. Monday-Wednesday...Dry west northwest flow aloft prevails with a few shortwave troughs aloft passing by, though with minimal low and mid level moisture, no precipitation expected. High temperatures nearly the same each day based on 700 mb temperatures. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 1020 PM MST Wed Nov 4 2026 Minimal aviation concerns are expected for the overnight hours. Mid to high-level clouds along with calm winds will lead to VFR conditions at all terminals for the remainder of the night. Clouds will decrease Thursday morning with winds remaining light. && .CYS WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... WY...None. NE...None. && $$ SHORT TERM...RZ LONG TERM...RUBIN/RZ AVIATION...SF
