Through Sunday... A shortwave and associated cold front pushing through the region today brought rain/snow showers to the lower elevations, snow to the mountains, cooler temperatures and breezy northwest winds. Showers will be capable of brief reductions in visibility, but for the most part, little in the way of snow accumulations is expected for the lower elevations. As the wave continues to slide east tonight, expect the isolated to scattered showers (15-30% chance) to gradually diminish, with some lingering flurries possible overnight. Winds will gradually decrease overnight as well. A cool night is on tap with temperatures down into the 20s to lower 30s. Mainly dry, but cool conditions can be expected for Tuesday as an upper trough digs to the east into the central US, putting the region under NW flow. Temperatures in the 40s can be expected for most areas. By late Tuesday into Wednesday, ridging builds back over the region bringing slightly warmer conditions (highs in the 50s). A shortwave cutting across southern Canada will drag an associated cold front through the area Wednesday evening/night bringing very low chances (15% or less) for precipitation and northwest winds. As the shortwave wraps up into an upper low over the northern Plains, pressure gradients look to tighten over eastern MT, bringing breezy NW winds. Warmer and drier conditions look to return Friday into Saturday as ridging builds over the region. Although there is uncertainty in the overall flow, ensembles continue to point to a potential weather system moving into the region by Sunday. Along with precipitation chances, the system could bring a windy period. Things to watch in the coming days. STP .AVIATION... VFR conditions are expected this evening and overnight. Isolated (15%) rain showers over the lower elevations and snow showers over the mountains will continue this evening. Look for gusty northwest winds of 25 to 35 kts to taper off this evening. LLWS is possible at KSHR and KMLS tonight, mainly after 04Z, as winds at 2kft increase out of the northwest to around 40 kts. The LLWS is expected to subside by 14Z.
