FXUS65 KBOU 091130 AFDBOU Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Denver/Boulder CO 530 AM MDT Fri May 9 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Warm weather continues through early next week. Still a few late day showers and storms most days mainly over the higher terrain today and Saturday. - Drier Sunday through Tuesday across the area but can't rule out isolated showers/thunderstorms across the high country during the afternoon. The plans are likely to remain dry. && .DISCUSSION /Through Thursday/... Issued at 149 PM MDT Thu May 8 2025 Generally quiet across the forecast area this afternoon, as ridging has started to develop to the north/west of the region. There's still quite a bit of mid-level moisture across the area, with a piece of the previous trough/upper low still hanging back across southern CO/northern NM. There's been a few weak showers across the eastern plains, with slightly deeper convective cloud cover over the higher elevations. This activity should gradually drift south-southeastward through the day following the weak steering flow. We'll end the week with fairly quiet and warmer conditions, as the upper ridge continues to build across the Rockies. Highs should reach the 70s across the plains with mostly clear skies. The increase instability/steepening lapse rates over the high country should allow for widely scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop in the afternoon. Our warming trend is likely to continue this weekend into next week. The upper level ridge should strengthen a bit more this weekend and will likely shift a bit more to the east as a broad trough approaches the PacNW coastline. Highs should again reach the 70s to low 80s on Saturday, with 80s likely by Sunday through Tuesday. As the trough approaches, southwesterly flow aloft should strengthen, leading to a potential increase in fire danger for most of the forecast area. The trough should race across the intermountain west by early/mid week, though guidance still keeps the track to our north, leaving us on the drier/windier side. Both deterministic and ensemble have a good signal for cooler temperatures for the latter half of next week, but it's too early to worry too much about that timeframe. && .AVIATION /12Z TAFS through 12Z Saturday/... Issued at 530 AM MDT Fri May 9 2025 VFR through Saturday and generally light winds. We do not expect any significant wind shifts from gust fronts through the period.
