FXUS64 KSJT 121816 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 1216 PM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 ...New LONG TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... - Cold front today will bring gusty north winds, mainly across the Big Country. - Stronger Cold frontal passage Saturday night with gusty winds and colder temperatures Sunday. && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Saturday) Issued at 1152 PM CST Thu Dec 11 2025 Cold front will move into the Big Country mid to late morning, moving along a Mertzon to San Angelo to Brownwood line around 1 PM, and along I-10, 6 to 7 PM. Main cold advection today will be in the Big Country with highs in the mid and upper 60s, with highs in the 70s to the south. Gusts of 17 to 22 mph are possible behind the front, mainly along and north of I-20. Air behind the front will be mainly dry, but late tonight, low level moisture and clouds may return in southeastern sections from Junction to Brady, as a warm front returns. Lows tonight will range from the mid 30s in the Big Country to lower to mid 40s along I-10 and portions of the Heartland. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday night through next Friday) Issued at 1206 PM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 Much colder for Sunday as cold advection and some low cloud cover continue across the area. Temperatures will be dependent on just how extensive the low cloud cover ends up being and how persistent it is. Most models at least show some breaking up of the low clouds for the afternoon, especially across the area north of I-20, which will help offset some of the cold advection. Sunday night is a big of a question. Models show a decent radiational cooling set up for the evening and into the early morning hours, as the mentioned break up of the low clouds combine with decreasing wind speeds and a dry air mass. However, GFS and even the NAM do show return flow and redevelopment of low clouds spreading back to the north into the area by sunrise Monday morning. They do have their differences in how quickly this happens, which is why NAM temperatures are in the mid/upper 20s with models like the GFS 10+ degrees warmer. Expect a decent drop during the evening and early morning, so will undercut the NBM blend to bring forecast lows closer to the NAM, even if temperatures may actually level off or even warm a few degrees by sunrise Monday morning. Monday starts the warming trend with temperatures climbing into the 70s for highs for much of next week. Normal highs are in the lower 60s so this would be 10-15 degrees or more above normal for mid December. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1134 AM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 A weak cold front along the I-20 corridor will move south across the rest of the area this afternoon and early evening. North to northeast winds will follow its passage, and then winds will become light late tonight into Saturday morning. VFR conditions and clear skies will occur this afternoon through early tonight. Low cloud development is expected late tonight over the southeastern part of our area, with northward expansion into the morning Saturday. Expect mostly MVFR ceilings at KBBD, KJCT and KSOA, but IFR ceilings should affect KSOA by mid-morning. Patchy development of clouds is also anticipated as far north and west as KABI and KSJT Saturday morning. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
