Breezy again on Tuesday with north winds behind a morning cold frontal passage. - Overall warming trend for this upcoming week, especially by the weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Tuesday) Issued at 1238 PM CST Mon Feb 2 2026 An upper shortwave trough is moving east into our area this afternoon, and is accompanied by high and some mid-level cloud cover. Our area has gusty south-southwest winds this afternoon, with an increased pressure gradient and lee surface trough to our west. South to southwest winds will continue tonight, at decreased speeds for our central and southern counties but remaining gusty (until late tonight) in the Big Country. Low-level moisture return is underway today, and expect low cloud development overnight into Tuesday morning over our southern, southeastern and east-central counties. A large and broad upper trough is over most of the eastern half of the CONUS today. A disturbance will dive down the back side of this trough into the central High Plains on Tuesday. With this setup, a weak cold front will move south across west- central Texas Tuesday morning. Winds will shift to northwest and north with the frontal passage, and expect increased and gusty winds from late morning into the afternoon. After low cloud breakup around mid-morning, skies will be mostly area wide on Tuesday. Temperatures on Tuesday will be a little cooler than today across the Big Country, with little change for areas farther south. Expect highs Tuesday afternoon to be generally in the lower to mid 60s with the cooler readings in the Big Country. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through next Monday) Issued at 1223 PM CST Mon Feb 2 2026 Generally quiet weather with warmer than normal temperatures through the bulk of the extended forecast, although we will have a couple cold fronts move through. An upper level shortwave is moving across TX today, bringing some mid and upper level clouds into the area. Another shortwave trough is also moving toward the central plains from the western CONUS. This second trough will send a cold front into the area tomorrow, shifting winds to the north and bringing cooler air into the region. From Tuesday into Wednesday, a large-scale trough will deepen over the eastern United States, allowing for another minor surge of cooler air into the area Wednesday afternoon and evening. Wednesday should be our coolest day of the week, with highs ranging from the upper 50s north of I-20 to the mid 60s along I-10. As winds diminish overnight, temperatures will fall to around freezing Thursday morning. From Thursday through the weekend, we will have a warming trend, with highs in the 70s for Saturday and Sunday. The next chance for precipitation looks like early next week as an upper level low moves over the area, but chances are still low at this point. && .AVIATION...
