Updated at 1251 PM CDT Wed Jul 2 2025 - Low to medium (20-50%) chances for isolated to scattered showers and storms continue into early next week. - Below normal temperatures continue into early next week. && .UPDATE... Issued at 1049 PM CDT Wed Jul 2 2025 Updated precipitation chances earlier this evening to account for trends of showers persisting farther north. Coverage still looks to generally be isolated to scattered. && .NEAR TERM... (Rest of today and tonight) Issued at 1251 PM CDT Wed Jul 2 2025 Cloudy skies are expected through much of today for much of the forecast area. Given recent observational trends, we have lowered forecast high temperatures for today - especially over southwest Oklahoma and western north Texas. Scattered showers, and a few thunderstorms, remain possible today and tonight. Precipitable water content remains on the high end with 2 inches PWAT prog'd over southern and into central Oklahoma this afternoon and evening. Any convection that develops will be efficient rain- producers and could lead to locally heavy downpours along with wind gusts to 30 to 40 mph. There is a low chance of patchy fog with minor visibility reductions (that could accompany rain) late tonight into early Thursday morning for parts of western north Texas and southern Oklahoma. Thompson && .SHORT TERM... (Thursday through Friday night) Issued at 1251 PM CDT Wed Jul 2 2025 The broad (and weak) mid-level ridge draped over the central and southern CONUS gradually shifts eastward as a southern stream shortwave moves over the central Rockies. The ridge continues to facilitate low/mid-level moisture transport into our area which leads to mostly cloudy skies through Friday. With forecast soundings continuing to reflect near-saturation within a very deep layer, scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible through the short term period. With the persistent sky cover and increased chances for showers/storms, temperatures have trended a bit cooler both days. Thompson && .LONG TERM... (Saturday through next Tuesday) Issued at 1251 PM CDT Wed Jul 2 2025 There is a medium (40% to 60%) probability that maximum temperatures remain below 90 deg into early next week, with a warming trend probable by middle of next week as an upper ridge strengthens over the desert southwest. There is at least a low chance of showers/storms each day. Thompson && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1049 PM CDT Wed Jul 2 2025 Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms persist late this evening, and will continue into Thursday. MVFR ceilings will likely develop in some areas Thursday morning, most likely with areas of showers/storms but will be possible elsewhere as well. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
