Updated at 1142 AM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 - Above normal temperatures persist through next week, with rain chances slim-to-none outside of the Davis Mountains. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Thursday afternoon) Issued at 133 AM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 Water vapor imagery shows the upper ridge of high pressure extending from the southern California coast to west Texas, with its axis centered near the Arizona/New Mexico border. This promotes continued hot and dry conditions, with afternoon highs today and tomorrow ranging in the upper 90s to low 100s regionwide. Though tempertures are a degree or two cooler than yesterday's as the aforementioned ridge of high pressure shifts slightly to the west. Thursday, sufficiently moist southeasterly upslope flow brings a low (10-20%) chance of isolated convection in/near the Davis Mountains. Greening && .LONG TERM... (Thursday night through Tuesday) Issued at 133 AM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 The Long Term forecast remains on track. In other words, "hot and generally dry" remains the dominant message through the forecast period. West Texas and southeast New Mexico still look to stay on the eastern/southeastern periphery of an upper-level ridge centered near or just west of the Four Corners area. As a result, highs across the area remain in the mid-to-upper 90s into next week, with 100 degree temperatures confined mainly to the river valleys. Lows settle in the mid 70s for most locations every night (60s in usual cool spots). Much of the area is still expected to stay dry through the period. However, low (generally 10-30%) shower and thunderstorm chances are maintained in and around the higher terrain (mainly in the Davis Mountains) thanks to upsloping winds and weak disturbances rounding the edge of the ridge.
