Updated at 1206 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 - Hot temperatures persist into next week. - Slight chance of thunderstorms Friday evening across the far southern Panhandle. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday) Issued at 1206 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 An upper ridge centered generally over the Four Corners region continues to bring hot and dry conditions to our area. Today will be similar to yesterday with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 90s to low triple-digits. Southerly winds will increase to near 15 mph this afternoon. Mild temperatures will continue overnight with lows generally in the low-to-mid 70s. The aforementioned ridge will continue to track slightly to the west, however evening PoPs have become less optimistic as shortwaves trailing a trough moving over the upper Midwest look to remain farther east over Oklahoma. As such, Thursday will mostly be a repeat of today with hot and dry conditions. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday night through next Tuesday) Issued at 1206 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 Embedded shortwaves will again propagate along the periphery of the ridge on Friday. Again, capping will be difficult to overcome, however a slight chance of thunderstorms has been retained in the far southern Panhandle with associated height falls. Otherwise the upper level pattern will remain unchanged well into next week. Highs will hold steady from the upper 90s on the Caprock and low triple- digits off the Caprock. && .AVIATION...
