FXUS64 KJAN 051822 AFDJAN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jackson MS 122 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 ...New DISCUSSION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Heat stress will increase in the west this afternoon, then worsen Thursday into the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 120 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 Through Thursday: Local radars showed a few showers developing over the southwest where there is just enough moisture to support them. In this area heat index values were climbing into the lower 100s and will top out near 105F. The convection will see a distinct diurnal trend and dissipate shortly after sunset. Unfortunately the heat and humidity will increase over more of our CWA Thursday. Latest RAP/water vapor analysis still showed an upper low situated northern GA and the corner of the Carolinas and a 595DM mid level ridge over the Desert Southwest. The upper low will gradually weaken through Thursday and along with a low level southerly return flow, low and deep layer moisture will will increase. Thus humidity will be higher Thursday while temperatures top out warmer than normal as well. Afternoon highs in the 94F to 97F range will lead to heat index values of 105F to 108F over our southwest and southern zones with sites in our delta peaking near 105F. Our northeast will see another day with heat indices well below 105F. /22/ Late week into next week (Friday through Tuesday): As troughing continues to lose influence across the area amid rising heights, low level southerly return flow and an uptick in moisture (low and deep layer moisture) will favor less efficient mixing, warmth/moist advection and increasing heat stress late week through the weekend. Temperatures will be seasonably warm (highs in the 94 F to 97 F range and lows in the 72 F to 76 F range). The region will remain in more of a large scale weakness in the flow but low level flow will help moderate in higher surface dewpoints into the weekend (72 F to 76 F) and increasing heat stress concerns. Graphical depictions of this forecast period remain unchanged, but forecast trends suggest an expansion of the "Elevated" risk area to include more if not all of the area may be required heading into next week. Low level moist advection and increased deep moisture aloft continues to increase into the weekend (PWs in the 1.5 to 2 inch range by the weekend into early next week). Mostly afternoon and early evening, diurnally driven rain chances spreads northward in tandem with the increasing humidity into next week. Coverage will be isolated to at times scattered coverage (20 to 45 percent range) to a little more numerous in the Pine Belt early next week from deep moisture (PWs in excess of 2.0 inches) and potentially sea breeze influence. This pattern will not favor any noteworthy storm threat, but a few stronger, gusty storms with locally heavy rain cannot be ruled out. /86/DC/ && .AVIATION...
