FXUS64 KHUN 271536 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 1036 AM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 ...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 1035 AM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 - Low chance for rain today, with low clouds in place keeping highs in the 50s. - Gusty winds 25-30 mph return Tuesday night with another round of high chances of showers on Wednesday. - Colder weather arrives Friday with overnight lows in the mid 30s. && .NEAR TERM... (Rest of Today and Tonight) Issued at 1035 AM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 Light precipitation is gradually tapering off this morning as a mid level trough pushes eastward across the Tennessee Valley. Current satellite imagery, observational data, and model soundings indicate of dense layer of low status developing/remaining in place from the late morning through the afternoon hours. A mostly saturated low-level boundary layer does suggest some light precipitation/mist will also persist through most of the day and will maintain a 10-30% chance of light rain in the forecast through 00z. These dense clouds will significantly limit any potential for heating and for this reason, don't think temperatures will budge much from their current values. For this reason, have tweaked temperatures down a couple degrees as it will be really difficult for highs to reach the 60 degree mark. Dense cloud cover will persist overnight with a stout inversion in place and ceilings are forecast to remain at/below 1 kft in general. This would result in some very low visibilities on the higher terrain, but limit the potential for valley fog despite the very moist boundary layer. Overall, temperatures won't budge much overnight and remain in the 50s. && .SHORT TERM... (Tuesday through Wednesday night Issued at 1035 AM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 A brief reprieve in the rainfall during the day on Tuesday as a subtle bout of ridging will take place. Despite the dense cloud canopy, some SE/SSE winds should be able to push temperatures into the low to mid 60s by the afternoon. This will likely be the warmest we'll be this week as a rapidly deepening upper-low will come barreling our way Tuesday night into Wednesday from the Mid South region. This feature will bring breezy winds (20-30 MPH) and very high chances (80-100%) for rain showers during this timeframe -- with most locations receiving an additional 1.0" to 1.5" of rain (with a few locally higher amounts). Rain chances will lower Wednesday night as the ejects into the central Appalachians and Mid Atlantic, but will still remain 40-70% over the area as this feature pulls away. A notable cool down will also take place Wednesday and Wednesday night as highs will drop back into the 50s and lows in the 40s. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday through Sunday) Issued at 954 PM CDT Sun Oct 26 2025 At the start of the long term period on Thursday, the aformentioned trough axis will be situated across the Southeast with an upper low centered over Tennessee. Wrap around moisture will result in a low chance of some showers throughout the day on Thursday. Mostly cloudy skies hold temperatures in the low to mid 50s during the afternoon, but it may feel a bit colder given pressure gradient winds gusting 15 to 20 mph. As we head towards the end of the work week into the start of the weekend, a cooler and drier pattern takes shape. Afternoon highs both Friday and Saturday only top out in the upper 50s to lower 60s. However, overnight, light winds and clear skies will drop temperatures on Friday night into the mid to upper 30s. Something to keep an eye on would be first frost development of the season, especially in northeast AL and southern middle TN. Another upper level trough digs into the Southeast by Sunday. This will bring another chancefor precip, but there is still some uncertainty in timing and how far south the upper level system drops. A gradual warmup is also expected in response to the southerly/southwesterly flow ahead of the trough on Sunday. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 647 AM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 MVFR to IFR conditions are forecast this morning before IFR/LIFR cigs move into the area later today. Rainfall should come to an end across HSV by this afternoon with dry conditions forecast through the end of the TAF period. Breezy southeast winds will continue through this afternoon, gusting to near 20kts at times. Winds should begin to subside later this evening. && .HUN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... AL...None.
