FXUS64 KHUN 051137 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 537 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 1020 PM CST Wed Nov 4 2026 - A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for all of northern AL and southern middle TN through 9AM Thursday. - Low temperatures will fall near or just below freezing this weekend. && .NEAR TERM... (Today) Issued at 334 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 No forecast changes were made with this update. Intermittent, dense fog continues to overspread the Tennessee Valley with visibilities as low as 1/4 to 1/2 mile reported. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 9 AM CT. Fog should gradually dissipate shortly after sunrise. This afternoon, highs are still on track to warm into the upper 60s to lower 70s under mostly sunny skies. Previous Discussion: The main focus overnight will be the development of dense fog over the area. This is already evident on satellite imagery, especially along and east of the I-65 corridor. A Dense Fog Advisory will be in effect through 9AM tomorrow when fog should begin to burn off. Please use extra caution when driving overnight and in the morning. Otherwise, mid level clouds will clear overnight allowing for good radiational cooling and allowing temps to cool to the mid 40s over NW AL and mid 50s over NE AL. Southwest flow will pick up aloft as upper ridging builds over the Gulf as a cold front slowly pushes to our east closer to the sfc. Despite the passage of the cold front, temperatures will continue to be slightly on the warmer side of seasonal norms, topping out in the upper 60s to lower 70s in the afternoon. Mostly sunny skies are expected with northwest winds. Overall, a very pleasant day is in store tomorrow! && .SHORT TERM... (Thursday night through Saturday) Issued at 1020 PM CST Wed Nov 4 2026 We will have to monitor the potential for dense fog again tomorrow night as clear skies, light winds, and RH values near 100% are forecast. Lows will fall to the mid to upper 40s, close to seasonal norms for early November. High pressure will spread south across the Midwest and into the Southeast as troughing moves east over the Great Lakes, and large scale subsidence will keep cool and dry conditions over the area. Highs will top out in the upper 60s to lower 70s on Friday before the reinforcing shot of cooler air brings temps down into the upper 50s/lower 60s on Saturday. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday through Wednesday) Issued at 1020 PM CST Wed Nov 4 2026 Get ready for this weekend. Colder air will continue to filter in on Saturday as high pressure builds in with northerly sfc winds ~10kts and gusts ~15kts with northwesterly winds aloft. Despite the partly sunny skies, daytime highs will only reach the upper 50s to lower 60s. Sunday will only be a tad warmer with lighter northerly winds. The weather story is really about this weekend's overnight low as we will hover around freezing. So be sure to take time to bring in sensitive plants, provide proper shelter to outdoor pets and check in on others to ensure everyone is prepared for the cold. From here, models disagree on how how an upper level low over northern Mexico into TX will evolve early next week as it slides eastward through the northern Gulf states. Daytime highs look to rebound back into the mid/upper 60s through mid week and lows should stay above freezing. Stuck with guidance and kept with a dry forecast for now. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 537 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Widespread LIFR conditions have taken over the area with periods of VLIFR conditions as visibilities drop to 1/4 to 3/4 miles due to dense fog. A TEMPO group for LIFR conditions continues through 13Z before conditions begin to improve to MVFR and VFR. If fog holds on longer than anticipated, amendments may be needed to extend the LIFR group into the later morning hours. && .HUN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
