FXUS64 KHUN 021911 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 211 PM CDT Wed Jul 2 2025 ...New NEAR TERM... .NEAR TERM... (Tonight) Issued at 211 PM CDT Wed Jul 2 2025 Post-frontal sfc high pressure continues to dominate the Tennessee Valley, forcing dry conditions despite diurnal heating as high temperatures have warmed into the upper 80s to lower 90s accompanied by partly cloudy skies. Dry conditions are forecast to continue overnight with lows dropping into the mid 60s. Mostly clear skies and light winds will allow a low chance for a few areas of patchy fog development- particularly areas that received rainfall yesterday as well as sheltered valleys and along large bodies of water. However, confidence is low due to lack of moisture in the area. If any fog manages to be realized, it should dissipate shortly after sunrise. && .SHORT TERM... (Thursday through Saturday) Issued at 822 AM CDT Wed Jul 2 2025 As an upper level ridge continues to hold its place over the South-Central U.S., the Tennessee Valley remains associated with sfc high pressure and subsequent dry conditions through the weekend. Highs are forecast to reach the upper 80s to mid 90s through the week along with heat indices near 100 degrees beginning Friday (July 4th). Increased heat concerns continue through the weekend, with little to no cloud cover forecast to provide any relief. If you have outdoor plans, be sure to use sun protection and stay hydrated! Rain chances return early next week. More on that in the long term section below. && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through Tuesday) Issued at 950 PM CDT Tue Jul 1 2025 The aforementioned ridge will continue to shift east over the weekend, and will support the increase in more tropical like air across the Tennessee Valley. The main concern over the weekend and into next week will be the heat as temps reach back into the 90s and afternoon heat indices look like they will meet or exceed the 100 degree mark. For now, it does look like we will remain dry through the weekend but this could change depending on the exact progression of the ridge. Nonetheless, thunderstorm chances will increase beginning next week as we transition back to a more hot and humid airmass with low chances for thunderstorms (10-30%) each afternoon. The good news is that there is currently no evidence in any organized system that would bring severe weather to the Tennessee Valley. && .AVIATION...
