Updated at 801 PM CST Sun Feb 1 2026 - Medium to high chances of rain on Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday. - Dry conditions are forecast from Wednesday into the upcoming weekend. && .NEAR TERM... (Rest of tonight and Monday) Issued at 801 PM CST Sun Feb 1 2026 A tranquil and cool night is in store across the Tennessee Valley. A plume of predominantly upper level clouds will continue to stream southeast from IL/KY/TN into AL overnight. Some light returns have been noted on radar, but with dry sfc conditions and 10-15 degree dewpoint depressions, no snow is reaching the ground. The clouds and higher dewpoints will make for a warmer night compared to the last two. Overnight lows will drop down into the upper teens in our far east and lower 20s elsewhere. Winds will remain light resulting in wind chills near or just below the observed temperatures. On Monday, the upper level trough will push further to the east allowing for more zonal flow across the Southeast. With high pressure centered just south of the FL Panhandle, sfc flow will become southwesterly during the day. This will result in both an increase in temperature and moisture. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 40s to lower 50s with dewpoints returning to the 30s. && .SHORT TERM... (Monday night through Wednesday Night) Issued at 801 PM CST Sun Feb 1 2026 The next chance of precip arrives on Tuesday as another upper level trough will dig south across the Upper Midwest towards the Ohio River Valley. A sfc low develops near the base of the trough and ejects eastward towards the Mid Atlantic. To the south of this low, a cold front will sweep from west to east across the Tennessee Valley Tuesday. Ahead of the front arriving, WAA will help warm temperatures into the mid to upper 50s. Rain chances begin to increase Tuesday afternoon with medium to high chances (60-80%) of rain Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning. Model soundings show a little elevated instability and therefore cannot rule out an isolated thunderstorm. However, confidence in this is too low to include into the official forecast at this time. Once the cold front passes during the day on Wednesday, rain will come to an end from west to east. Sfc winds become northerly Wednesday afternoon bringing in a colder airmass. Expect gradient winds to increase to 15-20 mph during the afternoon and evening. As temperatures drop down into the lower 20s overnight, wind chills will be in the low to mid teens. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday through Sunday) Issued at 801 PM CST Sun Feb 1 2026 After the trough and front that brings rain on Wednesday shifts southeast, deep layer northwest flow will follow late this week into next weekend with a ridge position in the Rockies shifting into Plains states. Although no bitterly cold air is expected, a roller coaster of temperatures will occur, with intervals of moderate warming and cooling. After highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s Thursday, readings reach the lower to middle 50s Friday, then drop back into the 40s to around 50 Saturday. Then its back into the lower to middle 50s Sunday. With a continental airmass and dry air, temperatures will still dip below freezing each morning through Sunday. && .AVIATION...
