FXUS64 KHUN 020439 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 1139 PM CDT Tue Jul 1 2025 ...New AVIATION... .NEAR TERM... (Rest of tonight and Wednesday) Issued at 950 PM CDT Tue Jul 1 2025 A broken complex of thunderstorms was seen moving south of the TN River as a sfc front tracks south through the area. Current obs show evidence of drier air moving through the Midwest and into the TN valley in the wake of the front, and this should set the stage for a few fairly pleasant days across the TN Valley. High cirrus will clear the area later tonight with mostly clear skies to follow. Overnight lows will cool into the mid to upper 60s, several degrees cooler than recent nights and will begin a temporary but welcomed change to the area. With clearing skies and light winds, will have to monitor for fog development overnight. A beautiful day is in store for the Tennessee Valley on Wednesday with sunny skies and temps mostly staying below the 90 degree mark. Highs should reach the mid to upper 80s during the afternoon as northerly flow maintains a cooler and drier airmass over much of the eastern CONUS. && .SHORT TERM... (Wednesday night through Friday) Issued at 950 PM CDT Tue Jul 1 2025 A broad subtropical ridge will be dominant across the Deep South through the late week period, providing a dry forecast for any 4th of July holiday festivities. Ample sunshine provided from the strong subsidence (clear skies) from this ridge will allow temperatures to warm each day, potentially reaching the mid 90s in some areas on this Holiday Friday. The steady increase in lower level humidity during this timeframe could bring heat index values close to the 100 degree mark on Independence Day. With overnight lows falling into the 60s each night, the risk for heat related concerns will be low until we get into the weekend. With that said, be sure to stay up to date with the latest forecast should heat become more of a concern for the holiday, and go ahead and make plans to bring proper hydration and sun protection if spending time outdoors Friday! && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through Tuesday) Issued at 950 PM CDT Tue Jul 1 2025 The aforementioned ridge will continue to shift east over the weekend, and will support the increase in more tropical like air across the Tennessee Valley. The main concern over the weekend and into next week will be the heat as temps reach back into the 90s and afternoon heat indices look like they will meet or exceed the 100 degree mark. For now, it does look like we will remain dry through the weekend but this could change depending on the exact progression of the ridge. Nonetheless, thunderstorm chances will increase beginning next week as we transition back to a more hot and humid airmass with low chances for thunderstorms (10-30%) each afternoon. The good news is that there is currently no evidence in any organized system that would bring severe weather to the Tennessee Valley. && .AVIATION...
