FXUS64 KHGX 270358 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 1058 PM CDT Sun Oct 26 2025 ...New DISCUSSION, MARINE... .KEY MESSAGES... - Temperatures to skew warmer than normal through Tuesday. - Strong cold front pushes through the region Tuesday evening / night, bringing much cooler temperatures and gusty winds in its wake. - Mariners be advised of hazardous winds and seas behind the cold front Tuesday night - Wednesday night. A Gale Watch / Warning might be warranted. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1055 PM CDT Sun Oct 26 2025 The weather over SE Texas will be rather boring through Tuesday afternoon as increasing subsidence in the wake of this past weekend's disturbance exits to the east. Light winds and lingering low level moisture may lead to overcast skies overnight with patchy fog, but these conditions should clear out by the mid- morning giving way to mostly sunny skies. There will be a slight warming trend through Tuesday afternoon with high temperatures rising into the low to mid 80s on Monday afternoon, and mid to upper 80s on Tuesday afternoon. You might have picked up on the fact that anytime I mentioned Tuesday in the paragraph above I specifically mention Tuesday afternoon. That's because there will be BIG changes beginning Tuesday night as a strong cold front moves through the area. This cold front is expected to pass through the area Tuesday evening into Tuesday night and with it's passage bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. However, the main headline from this frontal passage will be the MUCH, MUCH colder temperatures it will be bringing to the region. Temperatures Tuesday night will be dropping down into the 50s for most of the area (possible some 40s if the FROPA is earlier in the evening), and then high temperatures on Wednesday in the mid to upper 60s. The front will also bring gusty northwesterly winds late Tuesday night through Wednesday. Inland locations will likely see gusts to 20-25mph, but areas near the coast could see sustained winds near 20-25mph with gusts to 30- 35mph. Wind Advisories may be needed, at least along the coast, on Wednesday. Even higher winds are expected over the coastal waters, but more on that in the marine section below. The coldest nights of the week will be on Wednesday night and Thursday night where light winds and clear skies will aid in radiational cooling. Low temperatures these nights will be in the 40s for most of the area with areas near the coast staying in the 50s, and parts of the Piney Woods dropping into the upper 30s. High temperatures Thursday and Friday will generally be in the mid 60s to low 70s. Trick-or-treating conditions Friday evening will be almost as good as they can be: clear skies, temperatures in the upper 50s to mid 60s, and light winds. Fowler && .AVIATION... (00Z TAF Issuance) Issued at 640 PM CDT Sun Oct 26 2025 Overall skies are clearing out with winds transitioning to light and variable. VFR conditions will persist until approximately 09Z/10Z when low ceilings/fog begin to set in, leading to IFR conditions. Visibilities should remain MVFR around 5SM. IFR/MVFR conditions should rapidly improve around 14Z/15Z. The remainder of the forecast period looks to be pretty quiet with variable winds less than 6 kts. Will need to monitor forecast trends as recent model runs show the potential for lower ceilings returning around 00Z on the 28th beginning along the coast and migrating inland by 06Z. && .MARINE... Issued at 1055 PM CDT Sun Oct 26 2025 Benign weather is expected through Tuesday morning with low seas and light onshore winds. But, mariners should be prepared for hazardous conditions beginning Tuesday night as a cold front ushers in strong offshore winds and elevated seas. Small Craft Advisories are all but certain Tuesday night through Wednesday or Thursday morning, but Gale conditions will be possible with gusts over 35kt possible. Isolated thunderstorms and scattered showers will also accompany the frontal passage Tuesday night, but the main concern will be these higher winds and seas in the wake of the front. The strong offshore winds may also lead to low water levels in the Bays on Wednesday and Thursday. Fowler && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
