FXUS64 KFWD 272331 AFDFWD Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Fort Worth TX 631 PM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Issued at 617 PM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 - Northwest winds of 20-30 mph with peak gusts to 40 mph are forecast behind a cold front Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds this strong could blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult for some high profile vehicles. - Tuesday's cold front will bring below-normal temperatures to the region through the middle and late parts of this week. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Tuesday night) Issued at 138 PM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 Clouds will continue to lift/scatter out for most of us this afternoon with the exception of some of our eastern and northeastern counties where they will be slow to erode. Highs will peak the 80s across the southwestern zones versus mid-upper 70s elsewhere. Otherwise, light easterly/southerly winds will continue overnight ahead of an approaching front. The most anticipated cold front of the season is still expected to move across the region tomorrow. The overall timing of the front hasn't changed from previous forecasts with windy conditions expected in the afternoon. A wind advisory will likely be needed for much of the region, especially for areas along and west of I-35. A few showers are expected to develop near the front during day, particularly across northeast and East TX where the best moisture will be placed. We also can't rule out a couple of afternoon storms across the Brazos Valley region as the front pushes south. Given the fast progression of the front, these will be short-lived before they move out of our area. As the main trough moves from the central Plains to the southeast Tuesday evening, cold air will finally filter in from the north. This is when we will begin to see those cooler temperatures. The overnight temperatures will drop to the 40s/50s with breezy winds and clear skies. && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday through next Sunday) Issued at 138 PM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 With the arrival of the much cooler airmass, expect Wednesday's highs to be in the 60s area wide. There's even a potential for temperatures to remain in the upper 50s along the Red River to the northeast. Windy conditions will also persist given the tight pressure gradient between low pressure to our east and approaching high pressure from the west, with wind gusts up to 35-45 mph expected in the afternoon. Make sure to keep outdoor objects secured over the next several days. Thursday morning will be fairly chilly for most of us with lows in the upper 30s across the west to 40s elsewhere. The northerly winds will continue to relax on Thursday but we will enjoy another cool day with afternoon highs in the 60s. A gradual warming trend will take place late week into the weekend as the surface ridge pushes east and south winds return. For those looking forward to trick-or-treating activities Friday night, temperatures will drop to the low 60s/upper 50s with dry conditions and light winds. Highs in the 70s will likely return by next weekend. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 617 PM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 South winds at 10 kts and VFR skies will prevail the rest of this evening and overnight before low stratus arrives Tuesday morning ahead of a strong cold frontal passage. This front will cause a fairly abrupt northwest wind shift around 14-15z for Metroplex airports, and closer to 17z for Waco. A thin band of rain showers may accompany the boundary, but precip overall is too unlikely to warrant inclusion in the TAFs. Sustained NW wind speeds near 25 kts with gusts as high as 35-40 kts are possible from midday into the afternoon hours while a small corridor of post-frontal MVFR stratusquickly gets shunted eastward. VFR skies and gusty north winds will prevail through the rest of the TAF period into Tuesday night. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS... Dallas-Ft.
