FXUS64 KFWD 121854 AFDFWD Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Fort Worth TX 1254 PM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Patchy fog will develop tonight across eastern North and Central Texas - Above normal temperatures will continue through Saturday, before a strong cold front brings colder temperatures on Sunday with highs in the 40s and 50s. - Abnormally warm temperatures will return to the region by the middle of next week. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Saturday) Issued at 1240 PM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 After a foggy morning across eastern parts of North and Central Texas, remnant clouds will continue to disperse through the rest of the afternoon as a weak cold front gradually pushes southward. Given negligible cold air advection, temperatures today will once again be above normal. Highs will climb into the mid 60s across North Texas with lower 70s in Central Texas. The front will stall across Central Texas this afternoon given its lack of support. This evening and overnight, a surface low along the Gulf coast will draw moisture into Central Texas as the front begins to retreat northward. The northward retreat overnight will once again lead to patchy fog across Central and East Texas through Saturday mid-morning. Saturday afternoon's highs will be similar to today with values ranging from the mid 60s to lower 70s. Do not be fooled though, a strong cold front will be moving through during the late evening hours, leading to a sharp temperature swing going into Saturday night. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday night through next Thursday) Issued at 1240 PM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 As mentioned in the short-term discussion, a strong front will be moving across North and Central Texas during the evening and overnight hours. A few showers may develop as the front interacts with better moisture content across Central Texas. Precipitation will not be widespread with rain chances diminishing after sunrise. The front's arrival means temperatures will decrease as winds increase. By Sunday morning, temperatures will be in the mid 20s to lower 30s in North Texas with mid 30s to mid 40s in Central Texas. Sustained winds of around 20 mph with a few gusts closer to 30 mph will add a chill to the air; wind chills across North Texas will be in the teens to mid 20s. The coldest daytime temperatures will be on Sunday as the area of high pressure to our north funnels cold air into our region. Temperatures Sunday night will be in the mid 20s to lower 30s with practically all of North and Central Texas experiencing freezing temperatures. The bulk of the cold air will not last long as southerly winds return by Monday. This will commence a warming trend with temperatures climbing above normal by the middle of the week. Wednesday onward, expected highs in the mid 60s to lower 70s with southerly winds below 15 mph. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1240 PM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 VFR is ongoing across North and Central Texas. A weak cold front moved through North Texas this morning, leading to light north to northeasterly winds. Winds will remain out of the northeast through tomorrow morning. For Central Texas. Winds remain out of the south, however, the front will turn winds out of the northeast AOB 5 kts closer to 22z. Tonight, moisture return will lead to low clouds and patchy fog across eastern North and Central Texas. There is enough guidance suggesting MVFR will impact KACT and eastern parts of the DFW Metroplex to include it in the TAF. Further forecasts will continue assessing the westward extent of the low clouds and adjustments to the forecast can be expected through tonight. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS... Dallas-Ft.
