FXUS64 KEWX 121447 AFDEWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 847 AM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 ...New UPDATE... .KEY MESSAGES... - Areas of dense fog Coastal Plains to the I-35 corridor through mid morning. - Temperatures up and down several times over the next seven days. - Low to medium chances (20 to 40 percent) of rain for the Coastal Plains Saturday and for the Rio Grande Sunday, otherwise dry conditions for the next seven days. && .UPDATE... Issued at 843 AM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 Decided to extend the Dense Fog Advisory for another hour until 10 AM as many areas are still showing visibilities of a 1/4 mile or less. Expecting visibilities to greatly improve once southerly winds start to pick back up thus eroding the fog which we are starting to see happen across parts of the Coastal Plains. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Saturday) Issued at 1218 AM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 Low level moist air is returning to South-Central Texas. Dewpoint temperatures over the Coastal Plains are 15-20 degrees higher than 24 hours ago. Moist air will continue to move toward the northwest today with southeasterly winds. The main questions will be if there will be fog, how far inland will it reach, and how low the visibility will be? We should see at least patchy fog over the Coastal Plains. It will probably reach the San Antonio area, but not Austin. There may be some spots with dense fog, and we may need to issue a Dense Fog Advisory by morning. Fog may have an affect on temperatures later today. Highs today will certainly be warmer than yesterday, but they should be kept lower where there is fog later in the morning. Fair weather will continue tonight. We don't expect a repeat of fogginess with a little more wind keeping things mixed. Low temperatures will be warmer with continued warm advection. Saturday the southeasterly low level flow will continue, and there may be enough isentropic lift to produce light rain over the Coastal Plains before noon. POPs will be 15%-20%. High temperatures will be well above normal and a few spots across the south could reach 80. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday night through Thursday) Issued at 1218 AM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 On Sunday the next cold front will will move through. There may be enough moisture in the Rio Grande region to generate some showers or even a thunderstorm, but chances are only 20%-40% during the day. There will be breezy northeasterly winds behind the front Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will be cooler again Sunday and Monday. Tuesday an upper level shortwave trough will move over the region. The blended model solution is still dry as this feature passes. Yesterday the deterministic global models were showing some rain, but they have trended drier. Temperatures will warm over the last few days of the forecast reaching well above normal by Thursday. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 515 AM CST Fri Dec 12 2025 VLIFR conditions at and around the I-35 sites will gradually lift this morning and become VFR by late afternoon while KDRT remains VFR. IFR CIGs develop overnight into Saturday morning at all sites.
