Updated at 110 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 - Continued hot and dry for most of South Central Texas for the next seven days. - A few spots in the Coastal Plains could reach Heat Advisory criteria briefly this and Thursday and Friday afternoons. - There is a slight chance for showers or a thunderstorm or two over the Coastal Plains and the Rio Grande Plains this afternoon and again across the Coastal Plains on Thursday and each afternoon through early next week. && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Thursday night) Issued at 110 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 Low to mid level clouds are lingering around through early this afternoon. However, latest satellite images are showing small breaks in cloud coverage, especially along the I-35 corridor. Out west across the Rio Grande Plains and portions of the southern Edwards Plateau, clouds are still abundant, however, the forecast calls for those clouds to burn off for the most part in the next few hours. Are we calling for dry conditions for the rest of today? Yes and no. Yes, because most of South Central Texas is likely to stay dry. The no part, is because an isolated shower or two or an isolated storm or two could develop this afternoon across portions of the Coastal Plains and the Rio Grande area. As a matter of fact, a quick shower formed over Goliad County around 11 AM CDT (CRP CWA) and then moved over Karnes County at the top of the hour. Otherwise, hot with highs in the 90s for most areas and up to 103 degrees across the southern part of the Rio Grande Plains. Elevated heat index values are forecast for most of South Central Texas this afternoon especially the Coastal Plains, where a few locations could hit the 108 to 112 for an hour or two. Clouds redevelop tonight into Thursday morning with overnight lows ranging from the low to mid 70s areawide. Like today, clouds stay until late morning or early afternoon followed by breaks resulting in partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. With increased moisture arriving from the Gulf, we are expecting for the seabreeze to provide enough lift to create isolated shower activity including the possibility for a storm or two in the afternoon. High temperatures reaching the 90s for most locations and even hotter across the southern part of the Rio Grande Plains. && .LONG TERM... (Friday through next Wednesday) Issued at 110 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 Similar weather conditions of those in the short term time frame are forecast for the extended period which includes the weekend into early next week. The subtropical ridge continues to dominate the local area weather pattern for the next week with surface southerly flow bringing increased moisture to activate seabreeze shower/storm activity across portions of the I-35 corridor and the Coastal Plains each afternoon. Highs in the 90s for the most part with overnight lows in the 70s. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 110 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2026 MVFR cigs continue to lift and scatter at this hour, and a repeat trend is expected Thursday morning with MVFR stratus impacting all airports for a few hours. Otherwise, occasionally breezy winds this afternoon will not be as strong Thursday afternoon.
