FXUS64 KAMA 091855 AFDAMA Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Amarillo TX 155 PM CDT Fri May 9 2025 ...New KEY MESSAGES, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... Issued at 156 PM CDT Fri May 9 2025 -Isolated to widely scattered storms this evening across most of the Panhandles. Storms are not expected to be severe, but may have gusty winds associated. -Gradual transition from below normal temperatures the past several days to temperatures about 10-15 degrees above normal. Warmest day looks to be on Tuesday. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Saturday night) Issued at 156 PM CDT Fri May 9 2025 Scattered low to mid level clouds have developed this afternoon, with to overall direction being out of the northwest. A subtle wave on the back side of the low that's setting up over the Mississippi Valley, is helping to provide the lift needed to get some isolated to scattered showers/storms this evening. These showers should be done by 8pm this evening. We'll gradually clear out overnight with lows in the 40s across the Panhandles. Tomorrow afternoon, we don't expect any active weather as the low will be far enough east that just a few mid level clouds are expected across the eastern Panhandles, and temperatures will climb to the mid 70s across all areas. Tomorrow night we'll still have lows on the cool side with lows in the lower to mid 40s. Weber && .LONG TERM... (Sunday through next Thursday) Issued at 149 PM CDT Fri May 9 2025 Over the weekend and into early next week we will continue to slowly warm up each day and should remain dry each day as the high over the western CONUS slowly tracks east. We should peak on Tuesday with our highest temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Wednesday will be slightly cooler, but still very much on the warm side as highs will be maybe 2 to 4 degrees cooler than Tuesday. By Thursday a weather system that moved into the Pacific Northwest earlier this week, is expected to have pushed south over the western CONUS and bring a dry cold front to the area, with highs pulled back into the lower to mid 80s. Weber && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1244 PM CDT Fri May 9 2025 VFR conditions will prevail at all TAF sites over the next 24 hours.
