FXUS63 KMPX 051124 AFDMPX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN 524 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - Drier conditions are expected through the period with above average temperatures returning late in the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 237 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Some lingering showers/drizzle continue across portions of eastern/southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin early this morning. This precip is being pushed to the south-southeast as a Canadian surface high builds in to the northwest. This has led to an uptick in northwesterly winds, with gusts of 20-30 MPH across the eastern Dakotas and Minnesota. Winds will trend down through late morning as the pressure gradient relaxes. This feature will continue to help get the last of the precip out of here (finally!), but clouds will likely be more stubborn. A new bank of stratus is diving south across northwestern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. Eventually drier air will filter in and we should start to see breaks in the clouds late tonight into Friday. Northwest flow will make today and Friday fairly chilly with highs in the 40s. Saturday will start off in the 20s area wide, but should recover into the upper 40s to mid 50s during the afternoon. Sunday will be a few degrees warmer with low 60s to start off the work week. These warmer temperatures will be accompanied by dry conditions through the remainder of the period. && .AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 514 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Aside from some light drizzle/fog for eastern/southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, precip has ended. Overcast skies continue through this evening, but ceilings will start to come back up over the next few hours to MVFR. Winds are still on the breezy side for western Minnesota, but they will be trending down through the day. Winds go northerly for all by tonight with speeds at 10kts or less. The return to VFR cigs is a little more uncertain, but some terminals will likely see it before the end of the period. KMSP...As mentioned above, the -DZ/BR should be coming to an end within the next hour or two. Otherwise, expecting continued MVFR cigs and northwest winds of 10-20kts.
