FXUS63 KMPX 050839 AFDMPX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN 239 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - Drier conditions are expected through the period with above average temperatures returning late in the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 237 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Some lingering showers/drizzle continue across portions of eastern/southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin early this morning. This precip is being pushed to the south-southeast as a Canadian surface high builds in to the northwest. This has led to an uptick in northwesterly winds, with gusts of 20-30 MPH across the eastern Dakotas and Minnesota. Winds will trend down through late morning as the pressure gradient relaxes. This feature will continue to help get the last of the precip out of here (finally!), but clouds will likely be more stubborn. A new bank of stratus is diving south across northwestern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. Eventually drier air will filter in and we should start to see breaks in the clouds late tonight into Friday. Northwest flow will make today and Friday fairly chilly with highs in the 40s. Saturday will start off in the 20s area wide, but should recover into the upper 40s to mid 50s during the afternoon. Sunday will be a few degrees warmer with low 60s to start off the work week. These warmer temperatures will be accompanied by dry conditions through the remainder of the period. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 1140 PM CST Wed Nov 4 2026 Light rain and associated visibility reductions will continue to gradually end (and improve) from west to east through the night. Widespread IFR to low MVFR conditions are captured on surface observations and will persist through daybreak, before an improvement to widespread MVFR conditions with ceilings between 1-2k feet for much of Thursday. Breezy northerly winds will gust between 20-25kts during the first half of the day. Latest guidance is trending more pessimistic with the erosion of MVFR stratus Thursday night. KMSP...Degraded conditions persist through the first portion of the 6z TAF period. Drier conditions will arrive by the morning push with ceilings rising to MVFR.
