FXUS63 KICT 091942 AFDICT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 242 PM CDT Fri May 9 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Mostly quiet, dry conditions over the next 7 days - Above normal temperatures next week - Possibility to return to more active weather pattern next weekend? && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 241 PM CDT Fri May 9 2025 Currently, water vapor imagery displays an upper-level low in the Central Appalachians with another upper trough in the Southern Plains slowly traversing to the Lower Mississippi Valley. Additionally, there is an upper-level ridge building into the Upper Mississippi Valley. This ridge will shift easterly flow aloft to northeast flow aloft by early Saturday morning, yielding a warming trend and dry conditions. Weekend high temperatures will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s with low temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s. As the upper trough lifts out of the southeast on Monday, it is possible for rain showers/storms to clip our far most eastern counties Monday afternoon, though uncertainty is high. Strong to severe storms are not anticipated with the main precipitation from this system staying off to the east. High temperatures on Monday will be similar to the weekend temperatures. By Monday night, flow aloft will shift to the northwest as a shortwave ridge continues to track east. At the surface, thickness will continue to increase, supporting temperatures warming more. High temperatures on Tuesday will be in the low to mid 80s before rising into the upper 80s and lower 90s on Wednesday. By late Wednesday, the next upper-level trough will move into the Central Rockies, shifting flow aloft to the southwest. Temperatures will remain in the 80s late next week into the weekend. Quiet conditions may come to an end next weekend as models continue to hint at a more active weather pattern. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z SATURDAY/...
