Issued at 200 AM CDT Fri May 9 2025 As of 2 AM Friday morning, an elongated midlevel trough continues to slowly move south across the southeastern half of the US. Meanwhile, a ridge axis is building across the northern Plains. The aforementioned midlevel trough will ultimately becoming a cutoff low across the lower MS valley by tonight. The midlevel pattern will remain stagnant throughout out the weekend, yielding dry conditions with a gradual warming trend. Temperatures will top out in the 70s areawide today with 70s and 80s expected for Saturday and Sunday. By early next week, a western CONUS trough will shunt the cutoff low eastward, allowing southwesterly midlevel flow to return by midweek. A shortwave ridge axis will slide overhead Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures surging in the upper 80s/low 90s. As prior forecasts have alluded to, mid to long range ensemble guidance continues to point towards a more-active weather pattern towards the end of next week into the following weekend.
