Issued at 211 PM CST Mon Feb 2 2026 Short-wave that brought this mornings snow has shifted off to the east bringing dry conditions back to much of the region. There is still an area of light lake effect snow across Vilas Co. which will linger through this evening, however, don't expect much additional snow accumulations. A weak ridge is progged to move over the region Tuesday and Wednesday which will keep the forecast dry. 500mb LREF mean flow fields show a deepening low developing over northern Canada Thursday then tracking over Hudson Bay into Friday. This system will initially draw a surge of WAA north across WI Thursday with a 30-40% chance of snow beginning Thursday morning. As low and mid-level temperatures warm near 0C there is a chance snow may turn to rain for a period, mainly across central WI Thursday afternoon/evening. Thursday night into Friday a cold front will start to sweep across the region bringing another chance for snow, mainly north of HWY 29. Trend over the past 24 hours has been to take this system further north which has been reflected in NBM snow accumulation probs which snow show a 20-40% for greater than 1" north of HWY 29 with the greatest accumulations in the northern WI snow belts. Along with the snow 20-30 mph gusts will be possible Friday behind the cold front. A prolonged period of northwest flow will then develop behind the front allowing of periods of lake effect snow to linger through the weekend across northern WI. Any subtle short-waves moving through the northwest flow may also bring additional rounds of light snow to parts of the region through the weekend. Temperatures remain on the milder side through most of the period, with highs mainly in the 20s, and even some lower to middle 30s in C/EC WI Thursday and Friday. A brief shot of below normal temperatures arrives in the wake of the late week clipper system, but temperatures should rebound a bit by the end of the weekend. && .AVIATION...for 00Z TAF Issuance Issued at 557 PM CST Mon Feb 2 2026 High-end MVFR and VFR clouds will remain across far northern and eastern WI this evening, with some additional MVFR clouds possibly forming across central WI for a time later tonight.
