FXUS63 KDVN 050810 AFDDVN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Quad Cities IA IL 210 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - One more day is ahead with the upper low / trof axis directly over the area, with widespread cool cloudy skies, west/northwest winds and periods of light rain/drizzle today. - Dry weather with gradual modification is forecast for the rest of the week, though the coldest morning will certainly be early Saturday. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/... Issued at 208 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 The upper trof/upper low remains positioned over the Upper Midwest, with a notable vorticity maximum dropping southward early today into northeast Iowa. This set up will certainly keep our area cool, cloudy, and damp today. The vorticity maximum should pass through the entire CWA today, and help focus a more continuous band of drizzle and light rain through the area through the day. This initial lift has been already bringing several bands of moderate drizzle / light rain to our area overnight, and one passed over our office just before Midnight, and brought 0.06 in one hour. That probably represents what will happen in the most concentrated areas today. This light rain should move off quickly this evening, with lingering cloud cover into tonight. Friday will see decreasing moisture aloft through the day, resulting in some sun, especially in the afternoon. However, with chilly air aloft, highs are only expected to reach the mid 40s north to upper 40s south, followed by clearing skies and a very cool night, in the mid 20s north to upper 20s south. && .LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 208 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 The surface high overhead Saturday morning, is forecast to move southeast of the region early next week, with increased southwest winds and milder temperatures in the 60s forecast. This entire period of from Friday through the middle of next week is expected to be dry. Northwest flow aloft may allow for some periods of increased wind potential next week. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 1112 PM CST Wed Nov 4 2026 Widespread IFR to MVFR stratus ( cigs 600 to 1200 ft) with areas of light rain and drizzle will continue overnight, through the early afternoon hours Thursday/today. Winds will remain west through Noon today, then turn more northerly tonight, with 10 kts most hours, and some mid day gusts to 20-25kts possible at times. Unfortunately, the upper low remains over the region through Thursday night, so the low stratus is expected to continue through the period. && .DVN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... IA...None.
