FXUS63 KDDC 120537 AFDDDC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Dodge City KS 1137 PM CST Thu Dec 11 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Dry throughout the forecast period - Weak cold front tonight shifting winds to the north - Stronger cold front Saturday afternoon/evening with coldest temperatures of the forecast Sunday && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 213 PM CST Thu Dec 11 2025 Dry conditions are expected throughout the forecast with an upper level ridge building over the western United States and a upper level trough over the eastern Untied states. This will place western Kansas under northwest flow aloft. A few waves of energy will move down through this flow and help push cold fronts through the CWA. The first cold front looks to move through tonight shifting westerly winds this afternoon to the north. This will be short lived as lee troughing redevelops tomorrow shifting winds back to a southerly direction. Only a few high clouds will be observed across western Kansas through tomorrow with lows tonight in the 30s. Highs tomorrow look to range from the mid 40s north with low to mid 50s along the KS/OK border. Lows tomorrow night will dip into the 20s. A second stronger cold front is progged to move through the area Saturday afternoon/evening. Much cooler air is expected behind this front but with continued dry conditions. A wide range of highs are expected Saturday with upper 30s across northern zones where the cold front will move through in the afternoon to low 60s across far southwestern Kansas where the front won't move through until later. Teens are expected for lows Saturday night with highs Sunday ranging from the 30s in our eastern zones to around 50 degrees along the KS/CO border. Lows Sunday night will dip into the 20s. The upper level ridge then slides eastward as we head into next week with continued dry conditions. Highs during the first part to mid week are currently ranging from the upper 50s to mid 60s. Lows look to dip into the 20s early week with 30s mid week. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z SATURDAY/... Issued at 1133 PM CST Thu Dec 11 2025 A wind shift to the north-northeast will be occurring early in this TAF period (already shifted to the NNE at HYS), as a weak cold front ushers in cooler air. Upstream observations were showing MVFR flight category due to stratus in the 2000-3000 foot layer across central Nebraska, and HREF ensemble probabilities show high enough probs of MVFR ceiling reaching HYS late morning to include in the TAF, but this is the only terminal we will bring down to MVFR at this time. BKN-OVC stratus may reach GCK and DDC before scattering out midday, so we will continue to monitor. && .DDC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ DISCUSSION...Hovorka_42 AVIATION...Umscheid
