Issued at 1054 AM EDT Fri May 9 2025 A once again a peaceful morning is ongoing in the Florida Keys. KBYX radar is shower free, while GOES-19 satellite is detecting mostly sunny conditions with slightly more scattered coverage over the Middle Keys. Temperatures across the island chain are in the lower to mid 80s and will continue to warm as we near the afternoon hours. Along the Reef, winds are southeasterly at 10 to 15 knots. KKEY 12z sounding revealed a mostly dry sounding, with a majority of the moisture found in the lower levels, which will keep any showers limited through the afternoon. For tonight, similar trends to the past few days are expected with our winds with peaking during the late evening hours, as they are currently lulling in the early afternoon hours. There are slight rain chances for tonight due to some potential showers popping up later, although, significant shower activity is not expected at this time. No changes were necessary to this update package. && .MARINE... Issued at 1054 AM EDT Fri May 9 2025 No watches, warnings, or advisories are currently in effect for the Florida Keys waters. From synopsis, an Atlantic ridge extending over the Florida Peninsula will shift eastward by this weekend, as troughing develops over the Southeast and northern Gulf. Gentle to moderate southeasterly breezes will lull during the afternoon and peak late in the evening through the early morning hours for the next couple days. A surface low will develop over the north central Gulf by this weekend, then lift slowly northward over the Southeast early next week. An associated front will approach the Florida Keys coastal waters during the early to middle part of next week, preceded by freshening breezes and increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms. && .AVIATION... (15Z TAFS) Issued at 1054 AM EDT Fri May 9 2025 VFR conditions will prevail at both EYW and MTH today. Rain chances will be near nil during the day, but will increase to a slight chance tonight. As chances will still be low, no mention in either TAF is required for now. Near surface winds will be out of the southeast at near 10 knots. && .CLIMATE... On this day in Keys Weather History, in 1992, the daily record cold high of 75F was recorded in Marathon. This is also tied for the coolest high temperature ever recorded in May.
