A front extending from the Northeast to the Southern Plains will move eastward off the Mid-Atlantic coast by Monday while lingering over the Southern Tier States through Tuesday. The storm will produce light snow over parts of the Northeast, with isolated pockets of rain/freezing rain over northern Mid-Atlantic overnight Sunday. As the front sags southward, showers and severe thunderstorms will develop over the Ohio Valley and the northern Mid-Atlantic on Sunday. Therefore, the SPC has issued an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms over the Ohio Valley to the northern Mid-Atlantic through Monday morning. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a few tornadoes. In addition, there is a Marginal Risk of excessive rainfall over parts of the Ohio Valley to the northern Mid-Atlantic on Sunday. Therefore, the WPC has issued a Marginal Risk (level 1/4) of excessive rainfall over parts of the Ohio Valley to the northern Mid-Atlantic through Monday morning. The associated heavy rain will create localized areas of flash flooding, affecting areas that experience rapid runoff with heavy rain. On Monday, rain will develop over parts of the Mid-Atlantic and move into the Southeast on Tuesday. Meanwhile, upper-level energy will trigger light rain over parts of the Northwest late on Monday. By Tuesday morning, an approaching front over the Pacific will trigger rain across the Northwest, which will expand inland into the northern Intermountain Region and the Northern High Plains by Tuesday.
