FXHW01 KWNH 120900 PMDHI Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 AM EST Fri Dec 12 2025 Valid 00Z Sat 13 Dec 2025 - 00Z Sat 20 Dec 2025 ...Heavy rains for the western Hawaiian Islands Saturday night through Wednesday... A weak front is forecast to stall over Maui late this week and dissipate. This could provide convergence for some showers across the central islands, while trades stay weak enough to allow for land/sea breezes. A low pressure system located northwest of the state tracks east along 30N starting Friday with the attendant cold front reaching the western islands Saturday night then stalling into Monday. Broad southerly flow with ample moisture is likely ahead of this frontal zone, and heavy rain is likely for Kauai and vicinity. The front is forecast to lift north into next week in response to another wave of low pressure, and then become stationary through Wednesday if not longer. There is more uncertainty if the front, and thus the enhanced moisture convergence, will stall over or just west of the state by mid to late next week. Regardless, before then there is continued confidence in a prolonged heavy rain event. At least drought relief can be expected over the next week for all but the Big Island which looks to stay east of the frontal zones. Tate $$
