FNUS63 KFSD 092008 RFDFSD Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 308 PM CDT Fri May 9 2025 .DISCUSSION... Hot, dry, and windy conditions will continue from this afternoon through the first half of next week. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s for most of the region today and tomorrow. Sunday, areas along the James River Valley, the lower Missouri River Valley, and portions of southwestern Minnesota may see some low 90s. Similar temperatures are expected for Monday and Tuesday. Winds this afternoon will turn from westerly to northeasterly behind a weak cold front. This front brings low (<20%) chances of light rain. However, due to the very dry air in place over the region, very little will make it to the surface, and most areas will not see any rain at all. Saturday afternoon winds will gradually become southerly and begin to increase. Overnight gusts of 20-30 mph are possible. Late Sunday morning winds really begin to ramp up. By early afternoon gusts of 40-45 mph will be common. Overnight wind gusts decrease to 20-30 mph. Monday and Tuesday will also be gusty, though each day will improve slightly. Relative humidity will be near critical to critical every afternoon beginning today. Values less than 25% will be common across the region through Monday afternoon. Tuesday conditions begin to improve, but fire danger will remain elevated. By Wednesday evening into Thursday morning chances of precipitation return to the forecast, easing fire concerns. Consider postponing burning due to the very high or extreme fire danger.
